Places - Cuba's Eastern Region

Matachin Museum-Baracoa

The museum is located in an ancient Spanish fortress built during the first half of the eighteenth century for the protection of the city from the attacks of corsairs and pirates. The history displayed within the old fort traces the history of the Taino, the pre-Columbian people who settled easter Cuba two centuries before the Spaniards.  It also provides an ideal opportunity to learn more about Baracoa and the interesting mysteries and legends surrounding the city and its inhabitants.
